JWANENG: Jwaneng Galaxy’s head coach, Morena Ramoreboli has picked his side as the best team in just ended 2022/2023 Botswana Premier League (BPL) season. Galaxy bagged their second league championship with an eight points difference. The team on Saturday afternoon wrapped up the campaign with a 2-1 win over Eleven Angels in a league game played at the Galaxy Stadium. Ramoreboli believes no side came close to Galaxy as his team of the season choice. The gaffer further said his pick of a Player of the Season would be within his Galaxy Stars.

“My team of the season will always be Jwaneng Galaxy. This team will have my choice and if I were to chose a player of the season it would Wendell (Rudath), Shikabala (Kutlwelo Mpolokang), (Thabang) Sesinyi, (Marcel) Papama or any one really from Jwaneng Galaxy. The boys performed well throughout the season” Ramoreboli said.

Galaxy shut this campaign in front of the home crowd on Saturday afternoon. They, however, had a rather cold start to the game and both teams struggled in the final third. The home side, however, had better opportunities at goal but was left to rue chances. Gilbert Baruti had a go on the 24th minute before Thabang Sesinyi came close on the half hour mark.

The visitors defence was eventually broken with a minute to the half time break as Sesinyi capitalised from a defender’s slip and powered a shot past the goalkeeper. The goal put Galaxy in front at half time.

The visitors looked the better of the two sides at the start of the second half but could not penetrate the Galaxy defence. However, against the run of play, Sesinyi doubled his tally to put Galaxy 2-0 up on the sixth minute of the second half. Galaxy were reduced to a man down as Resaobaka Thatayane was given his marching midway through the second half. The visitors took advantage and pushed for a goal. Angeles were eventually rewarded when Shanganani Ngada found himself at the end of a parried ball by the goalkeeper and slotted home to make it 2-1 on the 66th minute. The home side squandered a number of chances but held on to win 2-1. The visitors coach, Seemo Mpatane was full of praise for his boys after securing a top eight spot in their maiden top flight league season.

“We have done very well for ourselves. I think no one expected us to be a top six club. We do not start here. This is a process that started 10 years ago. We do not have a big budget and we lost the first four matches and nobody really gave us a chance,” he said.

The teams:

Galaxy: Anthony Gouws, Thabang Mooketsi, Doctor David, Thabo Leinanyane, Percy More, Kutlwelo Mpolokang (Allen Ndodole), Francisco Madinga, Marcell Papama (Mpho Kgomo), Gilbert Baruti (Gape Gagoangwe), Kitso Mpuisang (Resaobaka Thatayane) Thabang Sesinyi
