The 19th edition of the Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza had run from October 17, 2022 to January 8, 2023. The competition draw was held on January 18, 2023 where five lucky winners won the grand prize, a new Nissan Navara bakkie.
All customers had to do was to buy any of the selected brands in the store to stand a chance to walk with away with the prizes during the competition period. The quintuple of Alfred Sedupenyane (Choppies Woodhall, Lobatse), Keikaegile Maswikila (Choppies Selibe-Phikwe mall), Boy Molefane (Choppies Ramotswa), Yvonne Clopas (Choppies Development Trust) and Makwe Kgosidiile (Choppies Tutume) were the luckiest customers as they tossed as the five grand prize winners.
These five lucky customers on Thursday were the car keys and drove in their well deserved Nissan Navara bakkies. In addition 93 more Choppies customers walked away with P15,000 cash prizes on the day. This brings the number to 98 customers benefiting from this year’s edition of the Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza. Lucky 10 members of the Choppies staff also each won cash prizes of P10,000.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Vice President, Slumber Tsogwane said the Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza is a phenomenal indication of Choppies Botswana’s course of upliftong the community. Tsogwane was in awe of the great lengths this company takes in order to appreciate its customers.
He said Choppies has over the years been a shining example of corporate social responsibility in Botswana through its countless social development programmes such as supplier inclusion, community socio-economic ventures and their shared value initiatives. The Vice President further said the Choppies Big Birthday Bonanza is the best real time example of many great Choppies CSR stories. “Let me take this opportunity to appreciate Choppies Management together with its partners for this endeavor as it’s in line with government’s vision and mission to assist Batswana. It is through initiatives like this one that we will see Batswana prospering and conquering economical adversities especially during hard times like the current.”
“I would like to congratulate you all present and those that could not be with us today due to other commitments and wish you the very best with your new found wealth. Please use the cash prizes and the vehicles wisely so that they can be of great benefit to you and your families in the future. Such winnings can be turned into great generational wealth tools that can change lives for the better for futures to come,” Tsogwane said. He further lauded Choppies Botswana for opting against scale down during the Covid-19 period where a number of businesses struggled to stay afloat.
For his part, the Choppies board chairman, Uttum Corea advised the winners to use their prizes to uplift both their personal and social well being. “On behalf of the Choppies board and Choppies management, we hope that the winnings of today will catapult more blessings upon your lives and make a difference as we work together to achieve common prosperity, social progress and human dignity for all in our country,” he said.
The Choppies annual Big Birthday Bonanza competition is a vehicle and cash giveaway partnership between Choppies and its partners. This 20th edition is expected to be the biggest thus far is scheduled to start later this year.
Choppies meanwhile prides itself in operating over 161 stores across Southern Africa, thus making it one of the biggest retailers in Africa. The retail giant currently employs 9,000 staff members and proudly 6000 of them are Batswana. This makes Choppies the second largest employer after government.
