Golden Grand Prix receives P2m

Golden Grand Prix welcomes int’l stars First National Bank Botswana (FNBB) Foundation is the title sponsors of the Botswana Golden Grand Prix Continental Tour-Gold after injecting P2 million towards the event.

Grenadian professional sprinter, Kirani James, Jamaican sprinter, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Kenya star, Ferdinand Omanyala will open the 2023 season at the World Athletics Continental-Tour Gold Botswana Golden Grand Prix slated for April 29.

The trio is part of a strong field that is expected to participate at the first edition of the Botswana Golden Grand Prix.

World Athletics has signed a three-year contract with the organisers of the meet, the Golden Door Sport Agency. Speaking during the launch, World Athletics liaison officer, Robert Wagner said more athletes would be unveiled in the coming weeks.

“This is only the beginning; more announcements will be made in the upcoming weeks ahead of the Continental Tour-Gold. I am happy with the way the Local Organising Committee (LOC) is pushing the event. We are looking forward to a successful event,” Wagner said. The organiser, Glody Dube said one day meets are common in Europe and being given the rights to host a Continental Tour-Gold in Botswana is a big achievement. He said the event is a sign that World Athletics appreciate athletics development in Botswana.
