Charged with robbery, theft, assault amongst others

FRANCISTOWN: Three boys aged 17 who allegedly unleashed terror on Tonota villagers and Shashe River School (SRS) students were on Friday granted bail by the Magistrate’s Court.

The teenagers, who cannot be named for legal reasons, are facing robbery, assault common, unlawful wounding, malicious damage to property and theft common charges.

They allegedly began their reign of terror in Tonota in May last year and were thereafter released on bail.

According to court documents, the juveniles struck again violating the set bail conditions which led the court to revoke it.

It was revoked because they allegedly violated the condition of not being reasonably suspected of having committed any offence whilst on bail.

After the teenagers struck again, the court remanded them in police custody for their safety.

This happened after some Tonota residents who were incensed by their actions bayed for their blood.

The juveniles were then remanded at Moshupa Boys Prison until they breathed a sigh of relief on Friday after the court granted them bail once more. Court documents also show that the juveniles used to wait for SRS students at the school gate before they ‘robbed and assaulted’ them.

They allegedly attacked those who had conflict with them.

Magistrate Game Mooketsi granted the trio bail on the condition that they should not be reasonably suspected of committing any offence whilst on bail, attend court as and when required to do so and bring two close relatives to sign as their sureties. Before granting the trio bail, Magistrate Mooketsi advised them that their futures are in their own hands. Mooketsi also warned them that should they continue with their alleged reign of terror, the court will not be lenient with them. He said they will be remanded in custody until the finalisation of their cases.
