Perion steals show at BOMU awards

Goitsemodimo Kaelo Staff Writer

He was not an award winner but Perion definitely won many hearts with his electrifying performance during the 11th BOMU awards held Saturday night at the GICC in Gaborone. Born Onkemetse Seretse, the RnB singer left a mark on stage when he performed his song, Lejebejebe. His heart-warming performance was arguably the best of the night as he left the attendants asking for more.

With the awards having started very late, the mood in the GICC conference hall had been somehow dull.

Attendants had waited from 6pm until after 9pm when the ceremony commenced. At the time people were already losing patience, but the organisers were clever enough to open the awards with performances which cooled down the people’s tempers.

And Perion’s performance was definitely what the doctor prescribed as he lit up the show.

It was a brief cameo but definitely worth the time as the singer brought life to the ceremony with his performance.

There were two performances after two or three awards and his was paired alongside rapper Baxon. Whilst Baxon did not disappoint, Perion took the tempo a notch higher.

His performance was well choreographed and the artist was right in sync with his band back-up vocalists. It was just his singing that left many in awe but his dancing as well. He really owned the stage.

With these awards attended by talent buyers across the African continent, this was a perfect opportunity for local artists to showcase their talent and it is safe to say the singer’s performance might have earned him something big.

There were other performances by traditional dance artist Ditiro Leero, who performed the hit song, Sediba sa Ngwao from his album Lesamutlha.

Thabang Garogwe, Oscar Chakabuya, Ezra Neethings, Boago Fenju, Suggie Fisher, Eskimos, Zana Cultural Vanguard, DJ Ngwazi as well as winner of Song of the Year award, Kabelo Tiro also serenaded fans with their music on the night.
