For the transitional National Development Plan (NDP) 2023-2024, the Ministry of Education and Skills Development has requested an amount of P797 million for computerisation.

According to the NDP report yet to be presented before Parliament, the programme aims to facilitate education planning for pre-primary to tertiary education through the use of an Education Management Information System and the provision of ICT devices to learners from upper primary to senior secondary.

It will further implement the National Labour Market Information System to help map the skills available and needs to guide human resource development.

The total estimated cost for secondary education is P760 million. The programme aims to provide quality, efficient, equitable, and relevant education to all, in line with the Education and Training Sector Strategic Plan (ETSSP).

The report states that the funds will cover the maintenance and expansion of both Junior and Senior secondary schools, teachers’ accommodation, as well as electrification of primary schools countrywide.

Currently, there has been an outcry that the ministry should carry out maintenance in schools and address issues of shortage of accommodation.

Maintenance according to the report will cover school power upgrading, Moeng College pathways, secondary school staff housing, secondary school expansion, and construction of new junior secondary schools and new senior secondary schools.

The ministry will need an estimated total cost of P15 million for special education.

The programme covers the construction of centres with appropriate infrastructure that shall enroll children with severe to profound intellectual and multiple disabilities to bridge existing gaps in the provision of education and ensure that all learners enjoy the right to education.

As per the report, this will include the expansion of the children’s resource centre in Tlokweng and the centre for severe and multiple disabilities at Kang. As for different consultancies, their estimated cost is P35 million.
