BotswanaPost absorbs nine trainees

Larona Makhaiza Correspondent

The third edition of the BotswanaPost Graduate Trainee Programme has produced nine graduates all of whom have been given permanent jobs at the postal service parastatal in different departments.

“The programme started with 10 trainees, and during the programme, the other one had to leave the training programme as they had an opportunity to go and study abroad, after getting a scholarship,” BotswanaPost corporate communications manager, Tshepo Maphanyane said. The BotswanaPost’s training programme was first introduced in 2013 and came back for a second stint in 2016, while the third edition was in 2018. The programme is supposed to run every two years but was affected by the pandemic emerging in late 2019 leading up to the first confirmed COVID-19 case in Botswana on March 30, 2020, which paved way for a State of Emergency declaration and a 28-day lockdown in April.

Before the latest cohort completed its training, the programme was then put to a screeching halt along with the world being brought down to a standstill. It is only this year in August that the trainees got to complete the programme.

The Graduate Trainee Programme of BotswanaPost

enrols graduate students only and has as of recent managed to produce 25 graduates in total. Thato Pone, who is the chief human capital officer at BotswanaPost, revealed the selection process.

“In terms of how the selection process works, we focus on all disciplines, more especially disciplines that are close to what we are doing at BotswanaPost so that they come and add value to BotswanaPost. We are always open for applications so that people have a fair chance of applying, and then we have a board that selects the candidates that are most ideal with our business needs,” Pone said. The nine who graduated in the programme are Baiketli Dijo, Boago Ramotiti,

Chabo Baeletsi, Chabo Bobe, Collen Rannyena, Moithaopi Monwela, Nonofo Nchinyi, Nteedzi Babotana, and Tlotlego Moesi. Speaking on behalf of the graduates, Babotana was rather thankful for the lifetime opportunity that has been placed before them by BotswanaPost.

“BotswanaPost worked against the tide and recruited several fresh graduates to train, grow, and nurture, and it is for this reason that my colleagues and I are humbled. And we are forever indebted to BotswanaPost,” Babotana said. The BotswanaPost Graduate Trainee Programme will return for its fourth round and graduates are urged to always keep on the lookout for applications to enrol on the programme.
