FRANCISTOWN: Selebi-Phikwe Police Station commander, Nicholas Kadiatla has said they are investigating an incident in which two Honda Fit old model cars were stolen in different locations in less than five days. Kadiatla told The Monitor that the two cars were reported stolen on November 28 and December 2 respectively.

He stated that the street value for both cars is P50,000 and P25,000 each adding that the latest incident took place on Friday in Selebi-Phikwe industrial area. According to Kadiatla, a 41-year-old woman reported that her Honda Fit car was stolen whilst she was at work.

He indicated that the woman parked her car by the industrial area in the morning when reporting for duty. It was later during lunch when she found her car missing from the parking lot, he elaborated. In a similar matter, the Selebi-Phikwe station commander said that a 37-year-old man reported his Honda Fit stolen whilst he was sleeping in Phase 1.

“The man left his car parked outside when he went to bed but to his surprise, the car was gone in the morning,” he explained. Kadiatla said both of the cars did not have alarms, hence urged motorists to install one after buying a car. He explained that installing an alarm system will help alert motorists when their cars are being tampered with.

He said these are first incident of this kind in their policing area and believes that there might be a growing Honda Fit collection somewhere.

Kadiatla said the suspects are still at large and the cars have not been recovered. Therefore, he pleaded with the community to help them with any information that can help with catching the criminals and recovering the stolen cars. In 2019, a police report indicated that Honda Fit was the most stolen motor vehicle model across all districts in Botswana.

Both cars is P50,000 and P25,000 each adding that the latest incident took place on Friday in Selebi-Phikwe
