VTM 1 (Thebe 58th) Santos 1 (Zoro 68th)

After four games played, Union Flamengo Santos are still searching for their first win in the First Division South League, coming from behind to settle for 1-1 draw with VTM over the weekend. From the first whistle, the game was evenly contested with both sides looking to find the back of the net first.

Santos were the first to come close to breaking the deadlock after they were awarded a free-kick from outside the box, which went over the crossbar by inches with the goalkeeper seemingly beaten.

VTM started to sit back and tried to absorb the pressure while their opponents continued and maintained their attacking style. Santos’s defence was caught napping for the first time in the game as VTM’s attack line beautifully combined with Sfiso Myeni laying an exquisite pass to set up Patrick Kaunda who failed to beat goalkeeper, Laone Baratedi. The two sides went to the halftime break tied at 0-0.

When the two sides came back from the half time break, VTM changed their strategy and attacked more.

They came close to breaking the deadlock after Senatla Molefhe delivered a cross into the box and Bogosi Mfila hit a volley but Baratedi denied them once more.

The first goal in the match came on the 58th minute when Tumelo Thebe fired the ball into his own net when he tried to clear the ball away from danger.

After getting the goal, VTM startmore ed to sit back once and play low block while Santos continued with the search

for an equaliser. On the 68th minute Santos got the equaliser, courtesy of Goitsemodimo Zoro after VTM’s defence failed to clear the ball in their own box. The game went on to end in a stalemate as the teams shared the spoils. The draw was the third for Santos as they continue with the search for their first win in the league.
