Let’s go, to Pedros!

It’s just been slightly over one week that the second branch of Pedros opened its doors in the CBD at the Fields Mall. The first branch is a year-old and is located at APJ and those who have been in the know, have been enjoying this power packed taste secret.

The food court at Fields Mall has been strategically placed to give it access to the playground area where kids go absolutely bonkers as their parents/minders can look on. I thought the umbrellas placed by the seating area facing the playground were a nice touch. There’s a jungle gym, turf and a tunnel which Shalom thought was perfect for staying cool.

Pedros has indoor and outdoor spacious seating, and we chose to sit outside for the cool breeze as it was quite a hot day. Being able to keep an eye on my kid as he played was a plus for me. We arrived for a late lunch after a Friday school run and were welcomed by the energised store manager Victor. It was evident that other parents had the same idea of sitting for lunch after picking up kids from school or passing through for takeaway while grabbing balloons from the stand that just inside the shop entrance, a special extra touch for the kids, free balloons! I could have never guessed the shop was recently opened, as the foot traffic compared to the neighbouring food joints was irrefutable.

It’s evident that it’s all about the people at Pedros. The people who serve the chicken and the people that eat the chicken. This was clear as staff was consistently up and down during the duration of our lunch, making sure all customers were satisfied at any given time and that the store was in tip top shape. There is undoubtedly a vibrant and positive feel when you eat at Pedros, ba busy, making it an upbeat, service centric establishment.

You no longer have to imagine having options for your healthy flamed grilled chicken. Pedros goes as far as presenting its chicken in dynamic ways. Basted or sprinkled? Looking through the menu, I couldn’t wait to learn more about this. It’s easy to guess what those preparation methods may mean but I did not want to make any assumptions. This was for sure one element I looked forward to experiencing. Opening Special prices ended the very day we visited, but guess what? The prices are still extremely competitive. I overheard patrons discussing how happy they were to be able to enjoy Two Chicken Burgers for only P50 that are available daily. Victor chuckled as he agreed that indeed everyday is a “specials” day at Pedros, amazing prices and juicy flavour packed chicken with a diverse menu that has something for everyone.

We ordered a full chicken meal and got the chicken cut in half with one part Sprinkled and the other Basted. Both the preparation methods result in succulent pieces of chicken. It really is just a preference to how you would like your chicken. I loved this because it allows you to change things up each time you visit the outlet.

Of the two I personally enjoyed the basted side but my date dug into his sprinkled portion with such intent that I was intrigued. It’s absolutely mouth-watering! A unique use of spices before flame grilling the pieces gives them a flavour packed crust and succulent interior flesh that absorbs the seasoning well.

Flavours range from Extra Hot, Hot, Mild, Lemon and Herb and BBQ. Sides were a bowl of yummy well-seasoned chips, it’s funny how the chips never seem like they are enough when they are that good. We also had a loaded wrap to share and what a taste. The chicken breast cuts are juicy and generously thick, layered with slaw, chips and cheese to give a mouthful of goodness.

The wrap is out of this world. I was even thinking that it’s so good you could have it by itself. Lightly toasted to give it a slight crunch, it really ‘wrapped up’ the overall taste.

We bumped into a couple we did work with more than years ago and got to catching up as they waited for their order. I asked them what they love about Pedros, the Mrs went on the say….”it’s the chicken, it’s juicy” then added that the son loves hot food and they did it just right. While enjoying our meal, I saw designer drinks delivered to the table next to ours and I couldn’t wait to hear what the Mocktail options were. Out of passion fruit and tropical, I picked the less obvious choice for me, Tropical. It is a super refreshing taste of summer in a cup. It was hydrating, not too sweet, ke gore, giving beach vaarbs! The boys ordered Barone Milkshakes and this is the feedback I received “The milkshakes were not like the usual ones.

This one was bar one and I have never tasted something so enjoyable in my life. I know that there are many kinds of flavours but I enjoyed this one”. Stores open Monday – Sunday, 9am–21pm. As the festive season approaches and we all deserve time off from our kitchens, take the family out for some #YoumeanPedros.
