Taking heed of Journey of Hope’s call to individuals and companies to support their initiative of fighting breast cancer, Cappuccinos Restaurant saw it fit to do its part, giving back to the community.

In honour of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Cappuccinos partnered with Journey of Hope to support and pay tribute to those fighting the never-ending battle against breast cancer. The restaurant’s staff also wore pink uniforms for the entire month of September.

They also made cocktails to celebrate the four founders of the NGO. Speaking at the hand over session held to present to Journey of Hope Botswana proceeds generated from Cappuccino’s Pink Ladies Cocktail Campaign on Thursday at the restaurant in Airport Junction Mall, Cappuccinos general manager Frank Molokwe said they designed some pink cocktails and named them by the people who are currently fighting breast cancer. Each of the four drinks was a tribute to all women at Journey of Hope who battled, survived or lost their lives to breast cancer.

The four cocktails were Sultry Sandy named after Sandi Field, Marilyn Rose named after Marilyn Garcin, Rita’s Magic inspired by Rita Keevil and Denbury Blossom inspired by Bev Denbury. Each drink was made looking at each woman’s character and personality.

“Our drinks are named after the fearless founders of Journey of Hope and the women who work tirelessly to raise awareness about breast cancer and assist affected women in Botswana. It is very important to help each other in these difficult times.

Cappuccinos is not just a restaurant, it is a home away from home. We are bringing together our customers with these cocktails to support and make sure we fight this cancer in October [and beyond],” Molokwe said. Molokwe explained that they also got some monetary help from customers saying that even those who did not take alcohol because the four cocktails were alcoholic suggested that the restaurant also makes the non-alcoholic pink cocktails and bought them in numbers.

He said they did and made sure everyone had their share. He further applauded Journey of Hope for their good work adding that they would in the future partner with them again so they continue helping those who need assistance. For his part, Cappuccinos owner Graeme Hill said cancer does not choose colour or race. He added that next year they would be bringing a pink menu as a way of supporting the cancer awareness campaign. He also said they will be bringing new ideas. All the proceeds made through the drinks amounted to P27,000, which was all given to Journey of Hope.

Onica Lekuntwane from Journey of Hope said they did not expect the cocktails would make so much money.

She further assured Cappuccinos management that the money was not going to go into their pockets but rather would be used to support the men and women they help during their campaigns.

She explained that when they do those campaigns they do not just teach people about breast cancer but also how to check cancer in their breasts and about the signs.

She added that sometimes individuals do not have money to go seek help at health service facilities as they are far from their homes. She also said ultra gram and mammograms were expensive for an ordinary Motswana. She thanked all those who purchased the drink saying their monies would go a long way in helping community members.
