Five of the deceased were in a Toyota Allex while three were in a BMW which had four people on board. Confirming the head-on collision that occurred at around 8am, No.6

District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Thari Senwelo said the deceased were aged between 22 and 38. “All of the deceased are Gantsi residents.

The Toyota Allex was driving from the Gaborone side facing north while the BMW was heading south from Gantsi. It is alleged that the BMW occupants who had spent their entire night entertaining themselves were driving back to the farm in the outskirts of the village when the accident occurred where there was a music festival,” he said.

Senwelo further stated that only one passenger from the BMW, a woman, escaped death but sustained a fractured right thigh and is currently hospitalised at Ghanzi Primary Hospital. “Accidents that claim lives are a concern countrywide and they always occur despite our efforts as the police mounting roadblocks and sensitising motorists and the public on road safety,” Senwelo said.
