Passenger dies in A15 car crash

Pini Bothoko

A30-year-old woman has died after a BMW X3 driver she was travelling with lost control of the car which overturned a few kilometres away from the Damochujenaa village turn-off along the A15 Road. The single-vehicle accident occurred at around 5am on Saturday along the A15 Road (Serule-Selebi-Phikwe road).

No.2 District Officer Commanding, Senior Superintendent Paul Oketsang said the car had two people on board, the deceased and a 32-year-old male driver.

“It looks like the deceased was not wearing her seat belt because the car had thrown her out and she sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to Selebi-Phikwe hospital and was certified dead on arrival by doctors. The driver sustained minor injuries and was treated and released the same morning,” he said. Oketsang further revealed that last week, a father and daughter also lost their lives not far from where the A15 accident occurred after he also lost control of the car which also overturned.

He pleaded with motorists and members of the public to follow basic rules like wearing of seat belts at all times and driving at the recommended speed amongst the many safety measures that can be put in place.
