Police have confirmed that all of the three armed robbers who were fatally shot on Friday at Sefalana Cash and Carry located at the Gaborone West Industrial site are all South African nationals.

Even though the police were not in a position to disclose the robbers’ ages, they stated that investigations into the matter are still at initial stages as they are still trying to inform their families.

It was further revealed that the two bystanders who died in the crossfire are male Botswana citizens aged 25 and 31. Asked who these Batswana are and what transpired for them to be caught in the crossfire, the police officer who could not be on record said he did not have more information on the case.

The trio allegedly robbed a G4S cashin-transit vehicle of undisclosed cash amounts and when arrested, a pistol loaded with 11 rounds of ammunition, cash amounting to over P649,000, and other stolen items were recovered.

However, unsubstantiated rumours making rounds on social media allege one of the deceased is an employee of the Citizen Entrepreneurial Development Agency (CEDA) based in Selebi-Phikwe while the other is alleged to be an employee of Sefalana Cash and Carry. Efforts to reach Botswana Police Service Public Relations Officer, Assistant Commissioner Dipheko Motube hit a snag as his phone was off.
