MoJ, EU undertake gender mainstreaming

The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in partnership with the European Union will undertake consultations and research on the Internal Dialogues on Gender Mainstreaming within the Justice System in Botswana. The consultation and the dialogues are sponsored by both the European Union and Botswana government. “The overall objective of gender mainstreaming within the justice system is to create a system that recognises and enforces human rights across gender considerations with a deliberate bias towards uplifting the vulnerable members of society. Specific objectives are to develop standardised gender mainstreaming guidelines within the justice system, to transfer gender mainstreaming knowledge from justice system members to the communities, and to undertake gender mainstreaming advocacy and campaigns in communities across the country,” a statement from MoJ reads. The consultations will begin on November 28 and run until December 13 in the following areas: Hukuntsi, Maun, Kasane, Masunga, Selebi-Phikwe, and Gaborone.
