Dhaa Botswana showcases diversity of arts

BY IRENE SHONE

Dhaa Botswana represents the rich and vibrant diversity of Botswana fashion, art and cultural industries. This is a team of Batswana and British resilient creatives working together to bring a world class event of fashion, crafts and culture.

From the fashion perspective, Dhaa Botswana is already doing exceptionally well with their merchandising. They aim at representing better on style, quality, practicality and usability. Currently, they have box hats, jersey dresses, ladies tennis sport dresses, winter jackets, coats, twin sets in sporty wear and suits. The brain behind this concept, also Co-Founder, Michael Burgess, who is based in London told Vibe that Dhaa Botswana was created to increase the visibility of Botswana’s fashion creatives. “This was meant to establish the credibility of Botswana as a fashion, art, design and culture capital of Africa than just showcasing. It is meant to be a bridge between Botswana and the rest of the world and facilitate access to global industry experts who could bring upskilling, exposure and investment to Botswana,” said Burgess. “Dhaa Botswana was intentionally created to partner with the most influential platforms in Botswana, such as Government, “he explained. They are also currently working on an event, dubbed ‘Dhaa Botswana: Fashion, Craft and Culture’ to take place in Kasane on November 24th to 26th. The event is anticipated to give exposure, support and opportunities for Botswana’s creative industry and the sector’s stakeholders including; tourism and hospitality, as well as entertainment. “This annual event would then increase probability of sustainable economic and industry development,” noted Burgess. He views fashion as a visual statement. He added that Botswana fashion industry has a solid foundation as far as inspiration is concerned. He has partnered with Berry Heart and Ikey and are committed to doing the work required to bring Dhaa Botswana to life, creating an ecosystem for Botswana’s creatives that is consistent, stable, empowering and inspiring.

Burgees further told Vibe that Dhaa Botswana will always be associated with inclusivity. “The focus will always been on honouring all those who contribute to the vibrancy and development of the country’s creative industry,” he said.
