Why is this month called June?
June is named after the Roman Goddess Juno, the wife of Jupiter and queen of the gods. She was the patroness of childbirth and marriage, which was fitting in Europe for what was the most popular month for weddings. She protected the state and she looked after the women of Rome. She was so important that she had a month named after her. Batswana called the month, Seetebosigo, a warning against visiting or going out at night during this month as it would be unbearably cold.
