Prisons XI shocks Wanderers

ISAAC PHEKO

Botswana Football League side, Prisons XI have breathed new life into their 2022/23 season campaign with a stunning upset against the Palapye outfit, Morupule Wanderers. In a scintillating display of attacking football at the Molepolole Sports Complex last Saturday, Prisons left their rivals shell shocked with a solitary goal that sealed the deal.

Despite the sweltering heat, both teams put up a valiant fight, with the Warders in a ‘do or die’ scenario as they desperately needed maximum points to escape relegation clutches that had been stalking them for the past ten weeks. Prisons XI emerged victorious, thanks to a well-executed plan of forward runs and offensive football that caught their opponents off guard.

For Prisons coach, Sepheko Motlhagodi, the win was a much needed boost for his team’s confidence, and he couldn’t hide his glee and enthusiasm when he spoke about their future prospects. “We have played the number one team in the log, and I think we will do far much better than we fared in the first round. The attitude is different now, our plans and structures are now completely different,” he said. Motlhagodi went on to explain that the team’s fitness levels were high, and they were not suffering any major knocks. “We are top, and we measure our fitness and do not assume it,” he added. Looking ahead, the coach believes that Prisons XI will continue to show signs of resurgence as they consolidate their position and make changes to their line-up. Currently sitting in 12th position with 15 points after 19 games, Prisons XI have won three games, drawn six, and lost ten. But with their recent triumph over Morupule Wanderers, the team is starting to show vital signs of life, and they could potentially cause more upsets as they aim for a higher place in the league table.

With their newfound confidence and attacking flair, the team that has seemingly found its scoring boots might just survive relegation.
