Some Serowe people say they don’t use new P10 note

As the angry crowds gathered in Serowe with just too many things to say as they walked about, some able-bodied men and women were heard saying bone

they do not want to touch nor use the new Ten Pula note bearing President Mokgweetsi Masisi’s portrait.

that note should actually be banned in Serowe and that the preceding note with former president Ian Khama should be brought back to be used in Serowe. Many were accusing President Masisi for the role they say he played in having Sir Seretse Khama’s children fleeing the country to live in South Africa, and also for imposing a Regent on the Bangwato tribe.

They expressed disdain for the current Head of State, even calling him a nonentity, with one woman declaring that if Bangwato are not careful, “re tlaa buswa ke boesemang” – nonentities! They added that the current President was responsible for Tshekedi Khama’s failure to ascend to the position of Vice President in the country when he was the rightful heir to the position. They also do not approve of the man who replaced Kgosi Sediegeng Kgamane as the tribe’s Regent, saying he was just a stooge of President Masisi whom the president wants to use to subdue their tribe. They even called him a hyena and a jackal that had to be smoked out of the royal clan. Matters got worse when they were made to listen to a call from former president Khama who told them he does not recognise the appointed Regent. At this point, some were heard saying they too do not recognise the new ten pula note with President Masisi’s portrait.

“Nna e bile ga o nchenchela ka leswe leo ga ke tsee madi a teng,” one was heard saying, much to the applause and approval of his peers.
