BALAKRISHNAN SAVES THE DAY

As Cricket men’s team is pushed down to position

BY CITY KEAGAKWA

Botswana Cricket Association (BCA) men’s team travelled to Rwanda riding high in confidence and hopeful of finishing amongst the top two (2) teams in the Africa sub-regional World Cup qualifiers.

The team however performed below expectations as Botswana finished off in a disappointing 5th position, when they went into the tournament as one of the top two ranked sides in the tournament. They recorded two (2) wins, three (3) loses, one (1) draw. There were some positives though, thanks to the impressive performances by Vinoo Balakrishnan who became the first local player to hit a T20 century. Balakrishnan achieved his historic moment against St Helena on Saturday, a game that Botswana won by 59 runs, with the local batsman scoring a century from 70 balls and was named player of the match.

Botswana won the toss and chose to bat first, sending Balakrishnan and Captain Karabo Motlhanka to launch the attack; however Motlhanka was eliminated early for 10.

Reginald Nehonde came on and formed a devastating partnership with Vinoo as the duo managed an incredible 155 run partnership, which is one of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) highest ever recorded partnerships.
