Notwane, Magosi lead the pack

BY SUN REPORTER

The Debswana First Division South (DFDS) has started like a house on fire with some of the local football giants making their intentions clear early into the new season as promotion to the elite league beckons.

Notwane Sporting Club, who relegated last season have had a brillinat start to the season, collecting 10 points from their first four games of the season, level with Mochudi Center Chiefs, who are top of the table due to a superior goal difference.

Notwane have intentions of staying abreast with the log leaders and even going above them, the team assistant coach, Mopholoso Reaitsanye says they had a good pre -season hence they are performing to the best of their abilities. “The good start to the season is a result of having a good preseason. The team really prepared well, playing enough friendly games and travelling as far as Phikwe, which was more of a team building session. Once you have a good preseason, you are highly likely to get good results as it has been the case with us thus far.” Before the league started, he says they sat down as a team and agreed on a mandate, not only that; but also discussed the possible challenges they are likely to face in the process. “So in terms of competing through out the season we are ready.” He stressed that this league will be very competitive, with about 6 teams being tittle contenders. “It means that in every 3 games you meet a title contender. We respect our fellow competitors but we try not to worry much about them and instead worry much about ourselves, our performance, improving the players and getting positive results in the games we play. If we can get that right we stand a good chance of achieving the target we have set for ourselves.” However, he also noted that since their players have been performing very well, they can be disrupted by predators who are always there to poach players from them. “It is very important to keep the core of your squad, a squad with strong competition for playing slots results in good performance. “We are really hoping that nobody will leave but it’s football anything can happen more especially for a team that operates on a low budget like Notwane. The big guys might come for some of our players, but we will address such issues as and when they happen. We also have a few players that we think can help us should the need arise.”
