New Era College reaches new heights

Ghodrati said.

New Era College of Arts, Science & technology is moving to smoothen operations with the unveiling of the new Executive Administration building. The tertiary learning institution on May 30, 2023 celebrated the newly erected P25 million structure in a ceremony held at their Block 8 campus in Gaborone.

The first buildings in the campus broke ground in 2006 while the learning institution opened doors to its first cohort of students in 2009. New Era College has grown in leaps and bounds as today the institution has produced over 3,000 graduates. A total of just P350 million has been invested in the campus since the establishment of the College.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, New Era College Founder and President, Esfandiar Ghodrati said the institution was established to help ease the government spending large amounts of money to send students abroad. Ghodrati said New Era College has taken the lead in the Engineering learning programmes and has contributed immensely to the development of the human capital inthe country.

“As we look to the future, we remain proud of our achievements in providing access to quality and competitive education that produces employable and job ready graduates.

We will continue to work towards this significant goal and despite the obstacles we have faced, we strive to keep the wheels of our great vision turning. I stand strong in my position that New Era College is an asset to the country. We currently offer over 24 unique and industry relevant degree, diploma and certificate qualifications that give our students the opportunity to make significant contributions to their nation,”

Furthermore, New Era College celebrated another land mark feat as the institution has 18 learning programmes accredited by the Botswana Qualifications Authority (BQA) through the new accreditation framework. Amongst these are the renowned Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Telecommunications and the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics. New Era College meanwhile awaits the accreditation of the Bachelor of Construction Engineering. However, the Diploma in Construction Engineering and the Diploma in Mechanical Engineering are already on full offer. Two new faculties have also been established in Commerce and in Special and Inclusive Education together with their suite of BQA accredited programmes.

New Era College, Chief Executive Officer, Amos Thapisa said the two milestones, being the official opening of Executive Administration building and the successful accreditation of programmes by the BQA, serve as a symbol ofNew Era College’s commitment to excellence in higher education. “Beyond its very beautiful physical structure, let it also embody our relentless pursuit of innovation and our resolute focus on producing graduates who are not just academically proficient but also possess the practical skills and hands-on experience to thrive in the real world of work,” Thapisa said.

For his part, the keynote speaker, Mr. Gobusamang Keebine expressed gratitude to the college for investing in developing Botswana both infrastructural and human capital. He said the commitment that New Era College shows is testament to its long term plan to do business in the country and grow the economy of Botswana.
