BDF XI gun for momentum against Galaxy

KABELO BORANABI

Following their first win of the league campaign in the previous round, BDF XI will look to keep the momentum against Jwaneng Galaxy on Saturday. Matebele had gone five games without a win and at one point, were at the root of the standings early into the 2022/2023 Botswana Premier League campaign. Last weekend, the soldiers won their first game in six as they brushed aside Masitaoka 2-1, thanks to an impressive debut display by seedy winger, Baathudi Moruki.

The Army Boys have a much bigger task away at the Galaxy Stadium as they face second placed Galaxy. However, they could be given a boost in that historically BDF XI have enjoyed frustrating their attack minded opponents.

Despite their poor start to the season, Matebele has one of the best defensive records in the league. They have conceded just one more than their weekend’s opponents despite the nine places between the two teams.

Letang ‘Rasta’ Kgengwenyane’s side has been let down by their display in front of goals as they have only found the net three times.

At the Galaxy Stadium, lies in wait a team that is creeping in the shadows of two Gaborone giants,

Township Rollers and Gaborone United in the title race. Galaxy have enjoyed less fanfare but have proved to be a force to reckon with. In their past five games, they have been better than any other team

in the league winning all their games. The Galaxy Stars are second to GU in terms of goals scored as they tucked in 11 thus far. Galaxy has never lost to BDF XI at home as they have triumphed in six of the 11 meetings between the two teams.

In another battle for three points, Prisons XI head coach, Sepheko Motlhagodi is missing his central defense partnership ahead of the Orapa United clash.

The Warders are away to the Ostriches on Sunday afternoon and Motlhagodi is without skipper, Kebatshabile Monthe due to suspension and Tshwanelo Mojanaga who is out with an injury.

“It’s a big blow. In all our games we have substituted because we were forced too. We have a very thin squad and we have had to play games sometimes with less players on the bench.

Now it means everybody must play any position in training,” Motlhagodi said.

Nico United will travel down south to the Royal Aria stadium to take on champions and leaders, Gaborone United this afternoon.

Tomorrow, Extension Gunners and Mogoditshane Fighters battle for the points at the Lobatse Sports Complex.

Township Rollers visit Masitaoka at the Molepolole Sports Complex as Morupule Wanderers take on Police XI at the Serowe Sports Complex. On Sunday afternoon, Sua Flamingoes who fired coach Rahman Gumbo this week, take on Holy Ghost while Security Systems welcome Eleven Angels at the Lobatse Sports Complex. All the games kick off at 4pm.
