Rollers hop into Gunners’ battle

LARONA MAKHAIZA Correspondent

Seven days after a mentally and physically exhausting battle for Gaborone, Township Rollers will be involved in another high-profile clash tomorrow as they aim for Extension Gunners’ scalp at the National Stadium.

The battle for Gaborone against Gaborone United ended in a controversial 1-1 stalemate with Lebogang Ditsele’s leveller at the death attracting the wrath of Rollers’ coach, Thabo Motang.

The Rollers management was forced to apologise for the coach’s outbursts as the goal was scored from an onside position. And now a week later, Rollers will have to draw all the strength against another giant, Gunners in a 4pm kick-off.

While Rollers felt it was two points dropped against GU in last Saturday’s stalemate, the Peleng giants come into this game after losing their encounter against Orapa United in a midweek clash. The 2-1 loss blew away Gunners’ earlier momentum which had taken the team to fifth on the log.

Rollers on the other hand are yet to lose a game in this campaign as they have only dropped points in two draws. Gunners have already lost twice.

Gunners will not complain about the underdog tag going into this encounter. The Lobatse side has accumulated only seven points from the five games played which sees them sit seventh on the log.

Rollers are keeping company with the leading pack, as they have garnered 11 points, just two behind joint leaders, GU and Jwaneng Galaxy.

Popa is expected to make light work of Gunners as in the last five meetings between the two sides, Rollers has swept the board. In the five matches, Rollers have scored 13 times compared to Gunners’ meagre three.

Gunners, now under Philemon Makwengwe will be chasing a shock victory against the record league champions.

In other games over the weekend, Orapa United will host a wounded side, Morupule Wanderers, that has just parted ways with coach Daniel ‘Chico Dance’ Nare, after losing their midweek fixture against Security Systems 3-0. Holy Ghost’s search for a first league win in the topflight continues when they face Prisons XI. The debutants have drawn three and lost three of their opening five matches in the elite league.

of Wanderers. Second-placed, Galaxy will look to continue with their fine form when they face Police XI.

The Jwaneng side has 13 points, the same as leaders GU but are second due to an inferior goal difference. Eleven Angels are beginning to find their flight and will hope to pile further misery on struggling Sua Flamingoes on Saturday.

On Sunday, defending champions, Gaborone United play Mogoditshane Fighters while the other week six fixture pits BDF XI and Masitaoka.

The army boys are surprisingly struggling at the wrong end of the table and, like Holy Ghost, are still searching for their first win of the season. BDF XI have scored only one goal in their five matches.
