Independence Day Festivities Delight

The traditional Independence Day celebrations are seemingly not a ‘thing’ to the modern day youth. For 56 years it is custom that Batswana gather in various localities across the country gather at the Kgotla to celebrate September 30th of every year. The celebrations included traditional music ranging from Setapa, Phatisi to Khwaere while the attendees also the best of the Tswana cuisine. The Kgotla areas were usually packed but the numbers have been drying up in recent years.

For the Botswana’s 56th birthday, the youth are to shun away from their forefathers’ celebrating September 30th. The modern day youth have caught up with the 20th century pop culture. The music festivals, picnics and social football events have since taken over. For this Independence Day celebrations there is a wholesome music festivals for this long weekend. In Thamaga, the locals will be treated with the Kumnandi eKhanya music festival. The event will be Legola Farm on the Friday, September 30. The event is hosted Thamaga born and South African based DJ and producer, DJ Ngwazi.

DJ Ngwazi is bringing best of Limpopo music, as he will be performing alongside, award winning performers such as Master KG and Makhadzi. They will be supported by local heavyweights including Kwasa-kwasa king, Franco, Charma-Girl, and the Amapiano DJ trio, FME DJ’s in a long and exciting line up. In Kopong, South African duo, Sdala & Paige will be performing at the annual Green Carpet. The duet will be performing at the 2-9 Farm alongside a number of local acts.

The Home Sweet Home will take place at the Serowe Sports Complex. Local boy, ATI headlines the event and he will be performing alongside South Africa acts, Zanda Zakuza and Senior Oat. The Maun Carnival will light the northwestern capital over the long weekend. Iconic duo, Mafikizolo will be performing at the Maun Sports Complex alongside other local artists. On October, 1, Bandleng All Star Experience (BASE) will be at Lobatse Sports Complex. The international artists includes Trompies and Dalom Kids while ones includes Mapetla, Matlotla and FME Djs, MMP family, Zolasko, Tumza and The Big Bullets, Slizer and Matlotlo.The local youth will also be on the look out for ‘Sunday soccer’ events and beauty pageants.
