six and lost just twice, scoring 66 goals and conceding only 22. “The coach’s contract is coming to an end, there is a need to sit down and engage with him and his representatives to reach an agreement, but that is between him and the management,” the club’s Public Relations Officer, Tankiso Morake shared. “It is clear for everyone to see, he did very well and it is expected that an improved offer will possibly be discussed and it will be up to the management of the team to decide whether they can match the coach’s valuation of his contributions. He loves this team, he still wants to lead and push this group of players to another level; he believes in this project, going into CAF Champions League will also boosts his Curriculum Vitae, so we’ll see how everything goes,” Morake added. Ramoreboli previously guided Jwaneng Galaxy to a historic Caf Champions League campaign with the team making its maiden appearance in the group stages of the competition, after defeating Tanzanian giants, Simba SC 3- 1 before their home crowd.

Prior to the historic achievement with the Jwaneng based outfit, Ramoreboli had led South Africa to a cup success following their victory in the regional COSAFA Cup tournament in 2020, which was hosted in his home land. Coach Morena Ramoreboli arrived at Galaxy as a consultant but was later given a short term contract after guiding Galaxy to their first ever Caf Champions’ League group stages. Galaxy had finished 3rd in the log standings of the Botswana Football League ( BFL), 11 points behind champions, Gaborone United.

Ramoreboli’s side however, had scored six more goals than the Reds, with Thabang Sesinyi having topped the goal- scoring charts with 24 goals; Sesinyi has this season scored 22 goals.

After clinching the league title this season, the Jwaneng coach expressed his excitement to have guided the club back to competing in the CAF Champions League. “Participating in continental tournaments helps our players to grow, 90 percent of the players we had in the just ended campaign were part of the group that competed in the CAF Champions’ league group stages, and they played a very positive role this season.

The lesson we got from competing in the champions League helped us a lot throughout the season. So we need to plan properly and demand more from ourselves. Botswana has got talent, I can attest to this, there is so much talent that it only needs an opportunity and be guided properly to achieve bigger things,” Ramoreboli shared. Morake further revealed that the coach has already submitted names of the players that he will like to extend their contracts for next season, which suggest his future interest to work with the club. “The season has just come to an end, there are some contracts for the players which have elapsed, he has already submitted some names he wants to keep at the club for the management to begin negotiations. Everything will be finished before long because the team will report back for pre- season on the second week of July and it is not far,” he said.

Morake reveals that Galaxy has abolished the culture of offering players signing on fees as the club has various strategies to give bonuses and also offer severance pay to players when their stay with the club comes to an end. “Sometimes players demand high signing- on fees, but here we have many options to enjoy bonuses and they get severance pay so we have decided that we will not be offering any signing- on fees,” he highlighted.

The Public Relations Officer also admitted some international teams have shown interest in some of their players and revealed that they will not deny any player a chance to go and compete in better leagues but reiterated that they will find the right replacements. There has been some reports that South Africa’s DSTV Premiership side, Supersport United have expressed an interest to sign Namibian attacker, Rudath Wendell but no official proposal has been made yet.
