UB Foundation raises funds through Golf

The University Of Botswana Foundation ( UBF) has successfully hosted its 16th Annual Fundraising Golf Day event on the 2nd of June 2023 at the Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club. The highly contested UBF Golf challenge attracted diverse participants from across the corporate world, private businesses, government and other stakeholders. Founded in 2000 to demonstrate commitment towards education, the UBF has to date sponsored over 300 graduate students and looking to add more through this year’s call for applications. The proceeds of this event go into the Graduate Endowment Fund; the foundation grows a graduate donation fund to advance higher Education. Founder and Chairman of the Organising Committee of the UB Foundation Fundraising Golf Event, Professor Hillary Masundire said the tournament has the status equivalent to Major on the international golf calendar saying that it has grown in stature over the years. He said the event forms an important part of the country’s sporting calendar.“It was well attended, and well supported as majority of golfers came in numbers to participate in different categories; sponsors bring teams of best players in a bid to win the top prize hence It is a major event in the Gaborone golf calendar,” Masundire noted. He said the UB Foundation event offers the corporate world an opportunity for marketing and networking while at the same time contributing to the human resource development of Botswana by raising funds for graduate scholarships tenable at the UB. The Botswana Telecommunications Corporation ( BTC), as their Platinum sponsor, has injected

P3000 000.00, split between 2022 and 2023 followed by Liberty Life as the Diamond sponsor at P1000, 000.00. They also got Gold three times this year sponsored by Debswana, Old Mutual, and Petro 4 Hyper at P50, 000.00 each. The organisers managed to secure a bronze sponsorship at P20, 000.00 each from Messidor, Ramalepa Attorneys and Mercantile Insurance Brokers.

Over 111 golfers from Sponsored teams participated in a golf tourney. The format of the tournament was 4- Ball Alliance, where four players were representing a team.

Botswana Defence Force ( BDF) team won the tournament with 108 points followed by FMRE team in position two after accumulating 104 points while Debswana Golf team took position three with 103 points. The BTC golf team settled for position four after collecting 102 points.

On other results, Ramalepa Attorneys team got 98 points, PulaMed team 98 points and Stanbic Bank team collected 95 points.
